Tomorrow is going to be a dark day for the internet, quite literally. Wikipedia is going to shut down to protest against SOPA. If you don’t know what SOPA is, read on to find out more.
SOPA is a new bill “designed” to stop copyright infringment. However, it’s been drafted by people who don’t use the internet and don’t understand it. This means that there is MASSIVE scope for abuse, and the mere allegation of copyright infringement means that your favourite sites can be taken down with any notice whatsoever.
This law is so open to abuse by large corporations it’s not even funny. In a perfect world, SOPA would work as intended, but lets be honest here, honesty and integrity is not the mark of large coporations and lobbying groups. I certainly wouldn’t trust the MPAA/RIAA with the internet, and neither should you.
The internet is just about the only place the 1% don’t have total control. We’re free to express ourselves and get ourselves heard. Don’t let them take that away from you.
What do you think? SOPA, good or bad?
